What is Audio Control Software?

 

Audio control software is a broad range of technologies that gives its users functionality over the audio or sound they listen to. In the more general sense of the term, audio control software usually refers to software applications that are able to play multi digital formats giving the user lots of control over the sound, features and looks of the control module.

Some of the more popular audio control software programs available today are Nullsoft's Winamp, SnackAmp, and Microsoft's Windows Media Player.

Nullsoft Winamp

Winamp is an audio control software that can play a variety of formats including MP3, MP1, MP2, AAC, WAV, WMA, MIDI, MOD, OGG, Vorbis, FLAC and many other types of audio formats. In addition, Nullsoft's Winamp can also play AVI files including MPEG and NSV (Nullsoft Streaming Video). Besides the ability to play audio and video files, you can load many types of plugins which are small modules that perform special effects such as digital signal processing, stream satellite radio, etc.

Winamp also is skinable. Skins are ways to dress up your audio control software to look unique and different. There are many different skins available. For instance, you can use a skin to make your Winamp player look like a sports car or an old analog radio.

Winamp also includes an equalizer, CD ripping and burning capabilities and a host of many other capabilities, for instance, hot keys and gapless playback. Winamp is also able to utilize and play files with DRM (Digital Rights Managements) in a variety of formats.

SnackAmp

SnackAmp is a digital audio player that runs on operating systems such as GNU, Linux and Microsoft Windows. This is an open source software and it is released by GNU's General Public License. SnackAmp is similar to Winamp in that it plays MP3's, Ogg, WAV files and audio streams. This software also allows you to control it through any web server through its remote control function. It has a fully integrated media manager that is intuitively designed and a remote socket interface.

Microsoft Windows Media Player

Windows media player is a digital media player developed by Microsoft. It is commonly referred to as WMP. Besides being a digital media player able to play most formats of audio, it is also includes a media library application. In its entirety, WMP can play many formats of audio, video and images on computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems or on PocketPC and Windows Mobile Devices.

While it can play many types of audio files including WMA (Windows Media Audio) and WMV (Windows Media Video), it can also play files called ASF (Advanced Streaming Format). Besides being an audio and video player, it can also rip music and copy music to CD's. This player also is able to play DRM (Digital Rights Management) files.
