Audiovox CDM-8150x
The Audiovox CDM-8150x is an aging candy bar style phone that was, at one time, an impressive device for the average cell phone user. However, as it has grown older, it has become drastically out of style and out of fashion. Unfortunately, the lack of features that are traditionally found in a modern phone are also vacant in the Audiovox CDM-8150x. In short, the Audiovox CDM-8150x makes a good bargain basement phone for you to take with you as a backup should your primary phone decide to quit on you. Otherwise, steer clear of this dinosaur.
The Audiovox CDM-8150x is actually designed by UTStarcom and branded under the Audiovox name for various markets. It is a dual band CDMA device which can be used only in the United States. There is also AMPS support for analog roaming, which is a feature that will go by the wayside in the coming months. Data is transferred via the CDMA2000 network for moderately high speeds compared to today’s modern phones.
Measuring in at approximately 5 inches by 2 inches by 1 inch, the Audiovox CDM-8150x is decently sized. Not so large that it will weigh you down and not so small that you can lose it on accident. The Audiovox CDM-8150x weighs in at 111 grams.
Because the Audiovox CDM-8150x is such an ancient device in terms of cell phone technology, the screen can only display black and white colors and six lines of text at the most. While it surely was impressive in its day, the Audiovox CDM-8150x is no match for even the cheapest phones available now.
Other features built into the Audiovox CDM-8150x include: a phone book with capacity for 100 names, a calendar, a calculator, voice dialing, and voice recording.
Pros
- Cheap
- Good collectors’ item if you like aging electronics
Cons
- Old technology
- Not attractive
- No features to speak of
Overall
The Audiovox CDM-8150x is best avoided unless you are a collector or you have some strange desire to use seven year old phones. While it can be used as a backup device, there are other, more modern, better phones that you should consider instead.
