Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper
The Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper is a 2005 era phone built by UTStarcom and branded under the Audiovox name. This is a clamshell device that was designed for the average phone user who did not want any fancy bells and whistles. Unfortunately, like so many other phones, the Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper suffers from terrible battery life which gets worse over time – making it impractical for even an average phone user.
The Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper is a dual band CDMA phone, so it can only be used in the United States. Unlike many other Audiovox branded phones, the Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper does not feature analog network support.
Measuring in at approximately three and a half inches by two inches by one inch, the Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper is a decent sized device that you will feel in your pocket all day long. It weighs in at 105 grams which is about the average for a phone of this size.
The battery life on the Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper is especially poor. Expect to only get three hours of talk time or 8 days of standby time on a single charge. To make matters worse, in a few months, you can expect the battery to perform worse and worse, eventually allowing for only two hours of talk time.
There are two screens on the Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper, given its clamshell style. The main screen is small (128 by 160 pixels) and ugly with only 65k colors. The external is a simple black and white display.
Unlike some other average user phones, the Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper actually offers an array of multimedia features which may contribute to the terribly short battery life. There is a built in 0.3 megapixel camera with a flash and 4x digital zoom. There is also support for MP3 playback, though the phone does not have much built in memory.
Other features include: a large phone book, an alarm, a calculator, voice dialing, voice recording, a stopwatch, a speakerphone, and GPS support.
Pros
- A decent phone for an average user in its day
Cons
- Terrible battery life
- Lack of features
- Arguably ugly design
Overall
The Audiovox CDM-8915 / Snapper would be a good backup device if not for its terrible battery life. Such poor performance is inexcusable, even in a bargain phone. Avoid this device and buy something that is actually usable instead.
