Audiovox CDM-9500

The Audiovox CDM-9500 is an aging clamshell style phone designed back in 2002. While it is not exactly cutting edge, and you cannot find it at any major cell phone retailers, it does have a few good features that may make it perfect for use as a backup phone in case of emergencies. That aside, the Audiovox CDM-9500 is not recommended under any circumstances.

The Audiovox CDM-9500 is linked to the CDMA network, so it cannot be used anywhere other than the United States on networks like Verizon and Sprint. Furthermore, the Audiovox CDM-9500 also comes with built in AMPS for analog support, now rendered useless. Data transfers are made via the CDMA2000 network.

This device measures in at approximately four inches by two inches by one inch in size. It’s weight is 108 grams.

The Audiovox CDM-9500 is powered by a very short lived Lithium Ion battery. Expect to only get one and a half hours of talk time or 100 hours of standby time on a single full charge. Since the device is so old, expect shorter battery life.

Unlike many mid range phones of the day, the Audiovox CDM-9500 actually features a color screen that can display nine lines of text. There is also a secondary display mounted to the exterior of the phone.

The Audiovox CDM-9500 also supports music playback, but only through the older, far outdated, MIDI format. Internet can be accessed via WAP and there is a USB port to plug the device into a computer.

Other features found on the Audiovox CDM-9500 include: a phone book with 300 name capacity, voice dialing, speaker phone, and GPS support via GPSOne.

Pros

Cons

Overall

The Audiovox CDM-9500 is a decent backup phone, but should really only be reserved for those who like to collect old cellular devices. The battery life is far too short to make it any use unless you need to call someone for a very short amount of time. All in all, this is a device to avoid, as there are far better phones out there.
