How do I remove Begin2Search?

 

Begin2Search is a piece of adware which installs itself as an Internet Explorer Toolbar. Begin2Search displays popup ads when you browse the web.

Begin2Search is distributed as a part of many software packages.

Remove Begin2Search from Windows Startup

To prevent Begin2Search from starting each time Windows boots.

  1. Click the <Start> button.
  2. Click the <Run> button.
  3. Type "MSCONFIG" and press <ENTER>.
  4. The System Configuration Utility (MSCONFIG) will pop-up. Click on the Startup tab.
  5. Locate the entry for Begin2Search and uncheck the box to its left.
  6. Click the <OK> button.
  7. Click the <Restart> button to reboot your computer.

Remove Begin2Search Files

After you have stopped Begin2Search, you may also wish to remove the Begin2Search files from your PC entirely. Note: %ProgramFiles% is a variable used for where your windows program files are installed. By default %ProgramFiles% is set to "C:\Program Files\". %System% is a variable used for where your windows system files are installed. By default %System% is either "C:\Windows\" or "C:\Winnt\".

Kill Begin2Search Processes

If you wish to kill the Begin2Search processes without rebooting, you can do so using the Windows Task Manager.

  1. Press the <CTRL>, <ALT> and <DELETE> keys simultaneously to start the Windows Task Manager.
  2. Click on the <Processes> tab.
  3. Find each of the following processes in the list.
    • df_kme.exe
    • install.exe
    • sr.exe
    • wfx5.exe
  4. Highlight each process and press the <End Process> button.

You may also wish to remove the Begin2Search registry keys, although this is unnecessary.

  1. Click on the button.

  5. If the cursor is not already at the top of the registry tree, scroll the window to the top of the registry tree, and single click on to highlight it.

  8. If a match is found, right click the matching item, and right click it.
  9. Select "delete" from the pop-up menu.
