Google’s Referral program

google_referral_ads.jpg

A couple of days ago Google officially launched their new Referral service. This will provide you with means to use PPA ( pay per action ) ads for other-than-Google products. So basically you will get payed only if someone uses the link in your ad to enter a site and perform an action (such as buy a product, register on their mailing list, etc.).

The service was active a while now, but now it was officially released and a broader list of referrals is available ( although it’s not as varied as you’d like ). So now the service is called Referrals 2.0 and it brings some interesting features such as:

  • Category and keyword targeting
  • Expanded product inventory
  • Better targeting for pages with multiple themes
  • Greater compensation for high-quality traffic

It looks interesting enough but there seem to be some problems with it as well, like the fact that not all products appear in the right category. Or the fact that at the moment there aren’t enough referrals to pick from. But the service is still new and we can expect these details to be fixed on the way.

For some this can be an exciting new way to bring revenue using AdSense, but for now I don’t think small adsense users can bring serious income through the referral program.
