When VoIP provider SunRocket closed its doors without warning Monday, subscribers were suddenly left without phone service.
This was not a small number of people — SunRocket had over 180,000 subscribers.
SunRocket’s assets are being liquidated by Sherwood Partners. Sherwood has made a deal with Packet8 to pick up SunRocket customers.
However, this deal isn’t necessarily a great deal for those SunRocket account holders. Packet8 isn’t honoring prepaid contracts made with SunRocket. In addition, the account transfers to Packet8 are expected the take several days to process. All Packet8 is giving ex-SunRocket account holders is one free month of services.
On the other hand, all of the other major independent VoIP providers are also offering deals to customers who were left without phone service by SunRockets collapse. Vonage, Nuvio, Primus, ViaTalk, and ZingoTel are all offering deals to ex-SunRocket customers.
If you were a SunRocket customer, it’s probably a good idea to shop around instead of taking the first offer that you see.
