Gusty Gibbons, the new Ubuntu release is due to come out on October 18th. But Ubuntu has a surprise in stock, this version ( Ubuntu 7.10 ) will be the first one that will have a Mobile and Embedded variant for handheld devices. Also it will integrate the Hildon UI components that were developed by Nokia on top of the existing Ubuntu platform.

Some of the features included in the mobile version are: good operating speed, widget capability, stylus operable, good implementation of third party applications and all the other feats considered ’standard’ for a handheld these days. Speaking of features Gusty will make full use of the Beryl-Compiz windows manager, that’s sure to bring some serious eye-candy with it.

So if you love Ubuntu on your PC or server, starting with October you’ll be able to enjoy it on your handheld of choice.
