VoIP Network Security and Seminars

Some interesting upcoming university-focused seminars:

Transforming college and university networks with Voice over Internet Protocol implementations, and building network security, survivable networks are the two high-profile technology topics that will be in the spotlight during the annual Spring Seminars of ACUTA, the Association for Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education.

The seminars are April 2-5 in Providence, Rhode Island, and will feature presentations by representatives of 16 different colleges and universities. These speakers will share with their peers the successes and challenges they experienced in putting technology to work on their campuses.

Among the VoIP topics will be the University of Pennsylvania’s migration to Open Source IP telephony, how the University of Central Florida extended the life of its existing PBX as it moved to IP, and successful VoIP implementations at larger institutions ranging from West Virginia University and the University of Arizona to smaller schools such as Swarthmore College and the University of St. Thomas.

Addressing campus security issues will be speakers from the University of Kansas, which used an Open Source solution to reduce viruses; Brown University, the University of North Florida, and Bridgewater State College, on implementing secure wireless networks; and Washington University on business continuity planning. A special presentation by an FBI agent will address computer crimes and their impact on educational computer systems and networks.
