Vonage commissioned a fun survey for Mother’s Day. It turns out that only a slight majority (59%) of Americans don’t pretend to be unavailable when their mothers call. One must ask what percentage of Americans are too embarassed to admit that they don’t ignore their mothers’ calls and lie to survey takers.
Long, Frequent Calls
* There’s simply no replacement for a nice chat with mom. Four out of
ten Americans (40%) say their average phone call with Mom is 20 minutes
or longer.
* A majority of Americans call their mother every few days or more (52%).
* And some nearly one in five Americans call their mother every single
day (19%).
Mommy Minutes
* Surprisingly, busy parents with children in the home are 13% more
likely to describe their conversations with mom as long and enjoyable
(47% vs. 34%).
* So how long do you stay on the phone with mom? For the majority of men
(64%) the average conversation is 15 minutes or less (vs. 47% of
women). Women are 17% more likely than men to have an average call
with mom of 16 minutes or more (47% vs. 30%).
The Midwest is Mom Country
* Americans with those good old fashion Midwestern values are much more
likely than those from other regions to pay a visit to mom.
1. Nearly one in two Midwesterners 47% makes an effort to stop by on
Mother’s Day, 39% of Northeasterners and 35% of Southerners and 25%
of Westerners follow suit.
2. Less than one in three Westerners visit mom on her birthday in
comparison to 36% of Southerners, 44% of Northeasterners, while
again Midwesterners are most devoted to mom as 47% visit on her
birthday.
Use VoIP phone service, a cell phone or landline, but don’t forget to call your Mom on May 14th!
