How to Convert CAF to MP3
CAF (Core Audio Format) is an audio container file format that Apple devices use to store and playback audio files. Commercial audio software such as Soundtrack Pro and Logic Studio use CAF to store libraries of sound effects and other audio elements. CAF files store many different audio formats and metadata tracks in a single file and are virtually unlimited in size, allowing them to store large amounts of data. Generally, Apple QuickTime accesses CAF files, but other commercial software may support them.
What is MP3?
MP3 (MPEG-1 Part 3), which is commonly referred to as MPEG-3, is a lossy audio format that allows users to compress audio without sacrificing quality. The MP3 file format is the most popular audio format in the world and a wide variety of programs and devices support it. MP3 files reduce the quality of parts of an audio file that humans cannot hear. This prevents listeners from noticing a difference in the audio file’s quality, while making the file itself much smaller, allowing it to be used in much more diverse ways, and storing it in larger numbers.
Converting CAF To MP3
Because CAF is not a very common audio format and generally requires QuickTime in order to be played, many users prefer to convert CAF files into MP3 files so that problems do not occur when stored in the same location as other audio files. Particularly, a user may wish to convert a CAF file into an MP3 file when storing the file on a media player that does not have external software to distinguish between file types. This can be done via commercial software.
