Malware applications, misbehaving web pages, and guest users sometimes change a web browser’s homepage.
Changing one’s homepage back to a reasonable option can save time and prevent annoyance every time the web browser is opened.
How to Change a Homepage back to Internet Explorer
To change a homepage within Internet Explorer:
- Open Internet Explorer from desktop or Quick Launch.
- Open the Tools menu.
- Select Internet Options.
- The General settings tab contains three sections. The first section, titled Homepage, is the one needed.
- There are now four options to change the homepage:
- Type a URL into the block labeled Address.
- Click to set the homepage to the web page currently being viewed.
- Click to set the homepage to the default homepage set when Internet Explorer was installed.
- Click to cause Internet Explorer to always start with a blank page by default. This is a good option when there is extremely limited bandwidth.
- Click the Ok button
How to Change a Homepage back to Mozilla Firefox
To change a homepage back to Mozilla Firefox:
- Open Firefox from desktop/Programs/Quick Launch.
- Open the Tools menu.
- Select Options.
- The Main settings tab contains a sub section titled Startup.
- The When Firefox starts drop down list provides 3 options: Show my homepage, show a blank page, and Show my windows & tabs from last time.
- There are now four options to change the homepage:
- Type a URL into the block labeled Homepage.
- Click Use Current Pages to set the homepage to the web page currently being viewed.
- Click Use Bookmarks to select a homepage from a Bookmarks list.
- Click Restore to Default to cause Firefox to always start with a blank page by default. This is a good option when there is extremely limited bandwidth.
- Click the Ok button.
