What Is A Download Manager?

A download manager is a computer program that is dedicated to the task of downloading files from the Internet, that is, for downloading files from a remote computer to a local computer provided they are connected to each other by the Internet. Sometimes, a download manager can also be used to upload files from one computer to another.

As the name implies, a download manager is used to manage downloads by providing greater control to users. Users can use download managers to maintain a queue of the files they wish to download, resume downloads, pause downloads, and they can even use the download managers to schedule their downloads. So, download managers are useful for an active Internet user whether he or she is using a dial-up connection or a broadband connection. A dial-up user can use a download manager to automatically start downloading the files at night when the traffic is low, and a broadband user can use a download manager to speed up the download process as the application can split a large files into smaller files that are downloaded in parallel. This results in an increase in the download speed.
