Flash.ocx Error
The Adobe Flash Player (formerly branded under the Macromedia title) is commonly used on interactive websites on the Internet. It uses ActiveX controls that allow developers to create additional functions for the user’s web browser. The Flash.ocx file is the ActiveX component by Flash Player 6 and newer. Unfortunately, as the Windows Operating System (OS) and other third party applications are upgraded, users may encounter a flash.ocx error on their computer. When encountered, this commonly results in the Flash Player having to be removed and reinstalled with the latest version available from Adobe.
How to Fix the Flash.ocx Error
Step 1 – Visit the Adobe Website (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html) and download the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller to the computer’s desktop.
Step 2 – Close all web browser windows open on the computer by clicking “X” or choosing “File” and “Exit” from the file menu on the open web browser windows.
Step 3 – Double click the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller icon on the computer’s desktop to remove the version of flash currently installed on the computer.
Step 4 – Delete the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller program icon from the computer’s desktop.
How to Install the Latest Adobe Flash Player
Step 1 – Visit the Adobe Flash Platform website (http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform/) and download the latest Adobe Flash Player Installer to the computer’s desktop.
Step 2 – Double click the Flash Player Installer file and acknowledge any default dialogue menu prompts that are displayed by clicking “Ok” or “Next.” On some Windows OS versions, users may also be prompted to enter an administrator password.
Step 3 – Restart the computer. This forces all computer applications that use Adobe Flash player to be restart as well.
Step 4 – Open the application that caused the Flash.ocx error. If the program is compatible with the most recent Flash Player version, the Flash.ocx error will be corrected.
