How Do I Install a Linksys Wireless Router?

LinkSys (now part of Cisco) is considered one of the leading providers of Internet cards and routers. It is one of the best known names because of its high quality products available at affordable prices. On top of that, it is very easy to install. The entire process is simple and it does not take much time.

How to Install a LinkSys Wireless Router

The very first step is to choose the place where you will be using it. The router should be positioned close to where you’ll be using your wireless computer. In most cases, these routers can work quite well anywhere in the house (unless the house is too big).LinkSys Wireless Router installation How Do I Install a Linksys Wireless Router?

Connect the router to the modem. Connect the WAN port on the back of the router to the back of the modem. Plug in the router so that it can get electricity. Power down the modem and then turn it back on. Once the modem is back on, turn the LinkSys Wireless Router on as well.

Connect to the Internet, using either an Ethernet cable or a computer with wireless capabilities. Open a web browser and type in the following: 192.168.1.1. This will take you to the administration page where you can make the necessary changes and create the network.

Enter the username and password. This can be changed later. Set up the details such as the name of the network, the security password so that only people who know it can access the Internet and of course,  change the admin username and password to something that only you will know.

Now that the LinkSys Wireless Router has been set up, leave the room with your wireless computer and try to connect to the Internet. You might need to restart your laptop, and then it should connect. If it does, the installation of the wireless router was a success and you can begin surfing the Internet.

I purchased a new Toshiba laptop and forgot my password to my older Linksys router.  Bottom line is, I can’t get the new laptop onto the router, should I reset the unit router?  If so, how or is it best just to purchase a new router?

If you never changed the password with which you enter the router you can try logging in with a blank username and “admin” as a password. If you changed it and forgot, it couldn’t hurt to try a reset. See this article for help with that.
