One of the great features about the Sony PSP is the ease in which you can put videos onto the hard drive. Once they are on the device, you can watch them anywhere. The quality is also quite nice when watching video, so it makes sense why someone would want to add movies. To begin with, make sure that the memory stick inside the PSP is a larger one. Longer and higher quality videos require more space.
With the PSP plugged into the computer (connect the USB cable to the computer and the PSP). To ensure that nothing gets shorted, have the PSP off when you make this connection. Once it is connected, turn the PSP on. Go to the settings menu and then select USB connection. Press X. The computer will then recognize the new drive and list it as an available drive to store things on. It’ll look like T:, but the letter will obviously be different.
Open up the drive with Explorer and look at what is inside. You should see a folder for music, games and other things. You’re going to be creating a brand new folder for you to access the video. Create a folder called MP_ROOT. Within that folder, create another folder called 100MNV01. This is where you are going to store the video for the PSP. Before dragging any video over, make sure they are in MP4 format. This is the only format that the PSP can play.
Now that the video is all in the right format, open the 100MNV01 folder and then open the folder that has the video. You can either copy and paste the files or you can drag them. It all depends on your personal preference. Allow the files to transfer over–they can take some time because they are much larger files than your average music file.
Once the movie files have been transferred over to the PSP, go to the bottom right hand corner and click the green check. Then remove the PSP. This will make it safe to remove the PSP. Check to see if the video is on the PSP. If it is working, enjoy the video. If not, go back and make sure you added the folders properly. If they are not added correctly, the video won’t be able to play.
