In 2004, Google Mail otherwise known as Gmail, was released in limited-beta for invite only. In 2007, it was opened to the general public and has since left beta and is now a full-fledged e-mail client that people can sign up to at a whim. It is considered one of the better e-mail clients due to the cleanliness, the ability to store as many e-mails as you want and because it has the option to connect all other e-mails to it. Signing up for a Google Mail account is straight forward. Visit Gmail.com and you will be brought to a page that prompts you to log in. However, since you don’t yet have an account, instead click the “Create an Account” tab. Punch in your first name as well as your last name. Determine what your login name should be. The login name is what will be the e-mail name. For example, if you pick alphabravocharliedelta as your login name, your e-mail account will be alphabravocharliedelta@gmail.com. Therefore, pick something that you are comfortable with. Fill in the security question and answer so that if you forget your password, there is a way to get it back. One of the most important features is the option to have a recovery e-mail. For example, if you are creating a new e-mail account, but still have another one, put the old one as your recovery e-mail. This is important because the new password will be mailed to that e-mail address should you need to use the security question to get a new password made. Even if this means keeping that second e-mail simply to be recovery for the first, having it can ensure you consistent access to your e-mail account. Set your location and your birthday. Fill in the word verification. Finally, read over the terms of service. It is important to read these words because it does explain what you are agreeing to in exchange for a Gmail account. However, if you want a Gmail account, there is little that you can change so accept it. Click “I Accept” and the account will be created for you. You will automatically be logged in and you can immediately begin sending e-mails and building up your contact list.
