While many people despise pop-ups and have them blocked on their web browsers, sometimes it is necessary to open a pop up. When the time comes to do it, though, knowing what to do can be tricky. It isn’t difficult if your pop up blocker isn’t strict. However, if it is strict, you’ll have to go into the blocker and make sure that it knows you are willing to accept some pop ups.
The first thing to do to allow a pop up is to hit the control button in the bottom left hand corner before clicking the mouse. When you do hit the link, the link will open. The control bypasses whatever pop up blocker is installed and allows the pop up to pop up. If you’ve already tried to access the pop up and it failed, hit the back button and then hit the link again holding control down. Usually, this works.
However, there are instances when this doesn’t work and that’s when you need to go into the blocker. The web browser will let you know at the top of the page that the blocker is not allowing you to access the pop up. For example, with Firefox, it says, “Firefox has prevented this site from opening a pop-up window.” However, if you want it to pop up, you’ll notice that there is the options section all the way to the right.
If you click that, it will give you the chance to change around the settings. The first is to give permission for pop ups to appear on that site at all times. Or, you can go in and edit the blocker so that it prompts you each time. Each browser is different, but most these days have this top strip that appears with the chance to approve. Should you not want the pop up, just close down the alert and go on your way.
Pop ups for the most part are an annoyance. However, from time to time, they are important. Therefore, bypassing the pop up blocker is typically the best way to open pop ups. However, if the control click doesn’t work, just approve it in the blocker’s settings. Then it’ll open pop ups on that site.
