How to Block a Phone Number
With the increase in global communications, the need for phone users to block a phone call has increased. The reasons for blocking a phone call vary. There are a number of easy ways to block incoming calls.
What Types of Phone Calls Do People Block?
It really depends on the person. The reasons for blocking phone calls can range from keeping known telemarketers from calling your home to keeping ex-spouses or significant others from harassing you or your new spouse. Although the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNCR) has been established for several years, consumers have found that they still receive bothersome calls. If in doubt as to whether a telemarketer's phone call is registered, visit their website or call 1-888-382-1222 toll free in the United States. The NDNCR does permit cell phones to be registered on the no-call list.
How to Block Phone Calls from Private Parties
National TELECOM companies have made it significantly easier to block phone calls in recent years. Those who receive a finite number of known phone calls can purchase an inbound call blocker which only lets known “good” phone numbers connect to the land line. Additionally, users can subscribe to a phone service to conduct the call blocking function on their behalf. When someone tries to call the number using either of these types of services, they will be routed to either a busy signal or a voice message letting them know that their call cannot be completed.

Many carriers allow specific incoming phone calls to be blocked by using * 60. In order to do so, enter * 60, then the phone number to be deleted or blocked. Once this is done, the phone carrier determines the time frame and cost for blocking the call.
