How to Disable Windows Messenger
Windows Messenger is an instant messaging software that is automatically installed on all versions of the Windows Operating System. Windows Messenger allows users to communicate with friends via instant messages, text messages, and email, as well as via audio and video calls. Windows Messenger allows users to create a unique profile and is able to record instant messaging history for later review.
Windows Messenger vs Windows Live Messenger
Windows Messenger differs from Windows Live Messenger in several ways. While Windows Messenger is the default instant messaging software on the Windows Operating System, users must specifically install Windows Live Messenger. Windows Live Messenger is an upgraded version of Windows Messenger and includes additional features, such as file sharing, high quality audio/video calls, a wider variety of emoticons, and compatibility with third-party email clients and social networking services.
How To Disable Windows Messenger
In order to disable Windows Messenger, open the Start Menu and click “Run”. From here, enter “services.msc”, click OK, and double-click “Windows Messenger” in the list that appears. You can then change the Startup Type to “Disabled”, click Stop, and click OK.
This will disable Windows Messenger. Alternatively, if you wish to uninstall Windows Messenger altogether, you can do so by opening the Start Menu, opening the Control Panel, and double-clicking Add/Remove Programs. From here, you can find Windows Messenger in the list and click “Remove”. By following on-screen commands, you will be able to uninstall Windows Messenger.
