One of the annoyances that comes with owning an iPod–it doesn’t matter which version because it happens to them all–is that it freezes from time to time. Fortunately, unfreezing an iPod is a very simple process. However, it does vary from iPod to iPod, so figure out what version you have before moving on to unfreezing the device.
How to Unfreeze an iPod Touch
At the top of the device is a button. This is the sleep/wake button. Typically, you press this to put the device to sleep or to wake it up if it has been turned off. To unfreeze an iPod touch, you need to hold this and then press the home button at the same time. Hold this until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. This will reset the iPod so that it is unfrozen.
How to Unfreeze an iPod Classic
To do this requires two steps rather than just one like with the Touch. The first step is to slide the Hold switch on and then off. In other words, slide it into a hold position so you see orange and then slide it so that hold is off. After doing this, press the menu and select buttons at the same time. One is found on top of the device and the other is on the volume wheel. Hold them down for six to ten seconds until the Apple logo appears.
How to Unfreeze an iPod Nano
Resetting the iPod Nano is almost identical to resetting the iPod classic. It should be noted that if you have an iPod Mini, you can reset it in the exact same fashion as this device. Slide the hold switch on and off. This means putting it into hold and then taking it out of hold. Press the menu and select buttons simultaneously. Once you do this, you’ll have to wait for the Apple logo to appear which can take up to ten seconds.
How to Unfreeze an iPod Shuffle
With the iPod disconnected from iTunes, slide the power button into the off position. When you do this, you will no longer be able to see the green stripe on the device. After turning it off, wait five seconds. Then, turn the device back on so you can see the green stripe. This should reset the iPod Shuffle so that it is no longer frozen. If it is still frozen, give it a few seconds and repeat the above steps.
