HTC Shadow
With most of America still of the perception that smartphones are for business use alone, and not practical for everyday use outside of the corporate world, the HTC Shadow fights this reputation with a phone that is easy to use and meets a variety of needs. The Shadow is perfect for those customers intimidated by the more professionally oriented smartphones, but feel the need for a more business-centric approach than your typical fun phone.
You could call the HTC Shadow an entry-level phone, both for the price tag and the general ease of use. However, this isn’t meant as a slam by any means, as the phone fills an in-between niche that few manufacturers have bothered to try and fill. The fun design quality puts it into the demographic of the young professional, while giving all of the tools and device software offered by your typical Windows Mobile device.
As far as design goes, the HTC Shadow has worked to come up with something fun and different in a world of similar looking cell phone devices. The frame and phone is small and light, and it comes in a couple of colors that aren’t common in the cell phone world of brights and blacks. Copper and sage are the two available colors, which cause the phone to stand out even without the other design elements.
The display screen is near the top of the line when it comes to cell phone quality. Displaying 65,000 colors and a 320x240 resolution, it’s one to wow your friends and coworkers with. It also comes with T-Mobile’s personal Home screen, which a lot of thought and creativity has gone into. For those that prefer a simpler display screen, you can easily go to the Windows Mobile by switching the two under Settings.
Call quality on the phone was variable and not as good as it should have been, and the videos and photos you can take are slightly grainy. The keyboard is easy to access and built in the QWERTY format to make for easy texting and making notes.
Pros
- Nice design, and it makes excellent use of the Windows Mobile smartphones
- Very affordable
- High quality camera and splendid display
Cons
- Doesn’t perform as well as it should in the calling department
- The navigation wheel could have been tighter
- Doesn’t perform up to par when several applications are being used at once
Overall
The HTC Shadow is perfect for those white-collar up-and-comers, who are ready for the next step in cell phone technology, but not in need of one completely centered on business features.
