Kyocera Mako-S4000
Envisioned as the replacement for the K323, the Kyocera Mako-S4000 is an attempt to take a good thing and make it better. In comparison, the S4000 is a thinner unit that fits into a lapel pocket with greater ease. At the same time, none of the functions have been sacrificed, and there are even a few extras that are likely to attract the attention of new users.
Designed with the clamshell structure that is common with many Kyocera phones, the S4000 offers a nice range of features. The camera has a self-timer and an auto-adjust feature that will prove to be excellent selling points. The presence of Bluetooth is a nice touch, along with GPS capabilities. When it comes to the speakerphone, the unit is equipped with full duplex sound reproduction capability, which can come in handy for hands off usage during a live call. Like many Kyocera phones, the S4000 also has an efficient voice dialing capability.
There are some minor enhancements to the S4000 that will help to make it comparable to the competition. While still not great, the talk time on this model is better than some of the phones in the Kyocera family, ringing in at four hours. Standby time is also slightly better than other Kyocera phones, with 250 hours. The screen resolution is not bad, but it is not the best on the market either.
Still, as a good serviceable handheld device, the S4000 is worth a look. While there is nothing here that is likely to knock the socks off anyone, the price tag will not put a hole in the pocket either.
