Slang Phrases and words from various countries, occupations, etc.

Anak: child; also the name of a very popular song (Malaysia)
Ascender: the part of a lowercase letter (like b, d, f, h, k, l, or t) that extends above the body of the letter
Descender: the part of a lowercase letter (like g, j, p, q, or y) that falls below the baseline, where the body of the letter rests; This is the part of the letter that many first-grade teachers call a “tail.”
Emmis: hard truth or real truth
Kerning: the space between text characters; Tightly kerned characters are close together, while loosely kerned characters are far apart.
Macho (pl. machos): the paradigm of male bravery, daring, swagger; e.g. The bullfighter, showing his macho disdain, stands haughtily immobile before 1,200 pounds of angry beef.
Machismo: someone who exhibits macho (male)
characteristics; e.g. The young gang members validated their machismo by taking on the toughest dude in the school yard.

Poppet: term of endearment meaning dear or darling; e.g. My poppet, it is so good to be here with you.
