Motorola L6
The Motorola L6 is an easy to use phone perfect for anyone who wants more than the standard features, but isn't worried about having the most top-of-the-line model available. It looks good, works well, and is affordable.
Measuring a mere 113x49x10.9 millimeters, and weighing in at only 91 grams, the L6 is certainly considered one of the smallest phones on the market today. It features a sleek and stylish metallic silver casing, and its shape is perfect for fitting just about anywhere. The only design flaw that some cell phone users might find unappealing is that it is longer in length than some of its competitors. Although some may enjoy using a phone with raised buttons, the keypad is inlaid for a flat look. The small, inlaid keys could possibly cause a problem for those users who enjoy text messaging on a frequent basis. The size can be a little hard to use for anyone who had larger fingers. But, there is good news for those who enjoy text messaging. The L6 includes what is called an iTap feature. With this feature, you can scroll through options located at the bottom of the phone's screen, one of which allows you to auto complete any word just by pushing the phone's UP button. The phone's menu is quite easy to access through the 4-way switch that has a central key, four additional keys that allow for quick menu access, and two buttons for additional access on the phone's edge. Users will be pleased to learn that the phone also includes a VGA camera complete with a 4x zoom in the phone's rear side. The side buttons on the phone are used to launch the VGA camera and camcorder options, as well as the WAP browser. The 128x160 viewing screen offers a clear, bright display that any user will appreciate.
The L6 offers a wide range of features that aim for users who have some knowledge of cell phone technology, but aren't extremely technical. The tri-band phone offers around 315 minutes of talk time, with 345 hours of standby time. There are wonderful options for those users who want to stay connected, including the miniature USB port that can be used for PC connectivity as well as recharging the phone's battery. One feature considered to be quite impressive is the fact that the L6 is equipped with Bluetooth technology that allows users the power to interface their phone with several different devices, as well as to transfers any files or data they wish to a PC. When you first bring home the L6, you will find that the Bluetooth option is unlocked; therefore there are no restrictions in its usage. This means that you can both send and receive MP3 ring tones and pictures quickly and easily any time you have the notion. Another option allows you to hook up the L6 to your personal computer for use as a GPRS modem. Be advised that when used as a modem, it will be rather slow at only 30 to 40 Kbps. Another thing to consider when using the phone's Bluetooth technology, it will significantly drain the battery, causing the battery usage to allow only about 4 hours of talk time.
The VGA camera included in the L6 may not have as high a resolution as some of the other cells phones available in today's market, but for the price, the pictures it takes are just fine for the casual user. The available video component's quality is similar to that of the camera. However, in both instances, there is a bit of a problem with memory. There is no memory card slot available on the L6. And, with just 10MB of memory already internally installed in the phone, there is a bit of a limit as to how many pictures you can take, or how long of a video can be recorded. When taking photos, be aware that they are small, about thumbnail-sized, and you can only take 128x96 videos at about 5 frames per second. Users of the L6 may be happy to learn that it does come complete with Java gaming options in addition to the camera and video options. These Java games will take up quite a bit of memory, so any user who prefers using their phone to take pictures or short videos may want to consider not using the gaming feature so there is more room in the phone's internal memory for those things that are more important.
To make up for its memory issues, the L6 does offer a large range of extras that is sure to impress any user. Included with the phone is a USB adapter that allows the user to connect the L6 to a computer, the software needed to make this process quick and easy, a power adapter used for recharging the battery, and also a headset connection that allows the user to easily operate the phone hands-free.
The phone's application set is definitely intended for the mid-level user. Included are MP3 ring tones, downloadable sounds, and also an array of animations and images. There is also a convenient picture Caller-ID that allows the user to see who is calling them, an address book that can hold up to 500 entries, a built-in speakerphone that makes hands-free use a breeze, group SMS, a currency converter and a calculator, a handy alarm clock, a date book that features a reminder alarm, and also a WAP 2.0 with convenient web access. Using the speakerphone is a convenient way to use the phone when being hands-free is the perfect option. However, the volume on the speakerphone works best in an indoor situation, and isn't recommended for use when outdoors. In general, call reception is nice and clear. You won't have any trouble hearing the MP3 ring tones since they come through loud and clear. However, when in vibrate mode, the vibrations emitted are rather weak, so this feature probably should be depended on unless you are in a situation where you can easily feel the phone's vibrations.
