Neonode N2
The Neonode N2 is a rather bizarre looking device that looks and feels nothing like anything else currently on the market. From the looks of it, it is going to be a device that people will either love or hate. Looks aside, though, the Neonode N2 packs in an interesting array of features that resemble those of a lower quality Apple iPhone.
The Neonode N2 was announced in February of 2007 as a quad band GSM device. This means that it can be used anywhere in the world simply by switching out the SIM card when you arrive at your destination. Unfortunately, data transfer is extremely slow on the Neonode N2. With support only for the old 2G GPRS network for data transfer, expect browsing websites and sending files to be a painful experience.
Measuring in at approximately three inches by two inches by a half of an inch, the Neonode N2 is easily one of the smallest devices on the market. It also weighs a measly 70 grams, making it impressively tiny for a device that has as many features as the Neonode N2 does.
When looking at battery life, it is easy to see where the Neonode N2’s designers decided to cut size and weight from. Expect to get a poor four hours of talk time or 200 hours of standby time on a single charge.
What the Neonode N2 really has going for it is its touchscreen mounted to the front of the device. It measures two inches in size, filling up almost the entire front frame. However, it is of rather poor quality, allowing for only 176 by 220 pixels of resolution and 65k colors.
Also built into the device is a 2.0 megapixel digital camera with support for video.
Multimedia features are rather plentiful. There is a video player that can play many of the popular formats that Windows Media Player can support as well as an audio player with support for several of the popular audio formats. Memory is expandable via mini SD cards.
Other features include Bluetooth support, a Windows CE Pro 5.0 operating system, a large phone book, an alarm, a calculator, a notepad, a to-do list, and a speakerphone.
Pros
- Very small device
- Pretty good set of features
- Love it or hate it design
Cons
- No 3G support
- Features are rather sub-par
- Terrible battery life
Overall
The Neonode N2 is one of those phones that you either have to have or you can completely live without. Those who are looking for a tiny device simply will not be able to pass this one up. However, if you can live with a few extra millimeters in size, then your best bet is to go for a slightly larger phone with a lot of better features. Recommended only if you have to have the absolute smallest and lightest device out there.
