Nokia 6315i
Just to put it on the table right away, the Nokia 6315i isn't going to make any fashion statements nor will you see a celebrity sporting it around town. It is just your basic Nokia flip phone that happens to have dedicated music player buttons on the front flap. If it weren't for those, this phone would escape your attention completely. Measuring in at 3.5 by 1.9 by 0.7 inches and weighing in at 3.5 ounces, the only nod this Nokia makes to the current trend is a slightly slimmed down look from previous versions.
The outside of the phone has the media player controls that allows you to open the player, play, pause, rewind, or fast forward your music without having to open the phone. It also sports a 1 inch, 96x96 pixel display that supports 65,536 colors. The display shows the date, time, signal strength, battery life and caller ID. You can personalize the display a little by changing the wall paper and clock style, but other than that, what you see is what you get. Another feature pf the display is that is acts as a self portrait viewfinder but you still have to go into the camera option to activate this feature.
The Nokia 6315i's display is quite impressive with its 1.8 inch diagonal, 1280x960 pixel display that supports 262,144 colors. It is vibrant and vivid and is great for the avid game user or web browser. You can change contrast, dialing font, backlight time and clock format.
The navigation buttons on this phone are slippery and they sit too flush with the surface of the phone. The same thing goes with the key pad buttons, while roomy; your fingers may slip around a little.
The basic features of this phone include a 500 contact phone book with each entry allowing for five phone numbers and an email address. You can assign photos for personalized ID as well as a specialized ring tone. You don't have many options with the ring tones that come with the phone so you may want to use the 2.0 web Browser to download some additional ones. While you are there, go ahead and download some games since this phone does not include any with the package. You also have vibrate mode, text and multi media messaging, voice recorder, email, USB compatibility, PC syncing, calendar, instant messaging (Yahoo, AOL, MSN), an alarm clock, voice dialing, notepad, world clock, calculator and a stopwatch.
This phone comes equipped with a five resolution, 3-, 5-, or 10-second self timer 1.3 mega pixel camera. You can adjust brightness and white balance controls and it also has landscape and portrait modes, three color effects, three shutter sounds and a silent option. The 1.3 mega pixel camera comes with a flash and a 2X digital zoom and a video camera that records clips in one resolution with sound and at 15 frames per second. The pictures are low quality but not anything you wouldn't expect from a 1.3 mega pixel camera.
The Nokia 6315i is an EVDO phone and supports all of Verizon's 3G services including the V Cast video service and the V Cast music store. You can also purchase and download a variety of Verizon applications such as VZ Navigator and Backup Assistance.
The Nokia 6315i has a talk time of 3.8 hours and a standby time of 10 days. The 3G Multimedia's promise is not delivered with the 6315i. The sounds emitted are brassy and the poor speakers didn't help it out one bit. You do have the option of a stereo wired headset and that can help but the performance is still lacking. Not to mention you will have to purchase Verizon's Music Essentials pack at a cost of 429 to fully use the player and, as with a lot of Verizon's phone, it does not have a Bluetooth profile. Be sure you have some time to spare when you download music because it is dreadfully slow. The streaming videos were a little better but still jumpy and jerky and pixilated.
This phone is good for making calls but fails to give you the promised range of 3G multimedia.
