Nokia 6500 Slide
The Nokia 6500 comes in two distinct form factors - one which slides and one which is labeled "classic." As you may be able to guess from the names, the slide version features a slider mechanism for a more compact (but heavier) size while the classic version features a look that resembles the classic candy bar form and results in a phone that is larger but lighter weight. The differences between the two versions of the Nokia 6500 do not end there though, as there are various features that are available on the slider version that are not available to users of the classic form.
To start with, the battery life between the slider and the classic Nokia 6500 versions are comparable, but different nonetheless. While the less expensive classic model manages 5.5 hours of talk time and 300 hours of standby time, the more pricey slider version squeezes out an extra half hour of talk time and 20 hours more of standby time.
Furthermore, both cameras feature different resolutions to their built in cameras. The slider style Nokia 6500 has a 3.2 megapixel camera in contrast to the classic Nokia 6500 with a 2 megapixel camera. Also, the slider version has push to talk capability and an expandable memory slot while the classic version lacks both of these features (although the classic Nokia 6500 does have one gigabyte of built in memory).
Now, both the classic and the slider versions of the Nokia 6500 do contain some similar features that can be found in many modern phones of today. Some of these features include Bluetooth, a media player (may not be too good on the non expandable classic version), speakerphone, email capability, and 3G functionality. Amazingly, despite the crippled features on the classic Nokia 6500, Nokia decided to include 3G functions anyway.
Furthermore, both phones are quad band GSM for global roaming, allowing the user to take the phone with him on all of his travels simply by switching out the SIM card.
Also, while this may not be a great feature to many people, the display on the Nokia 6500 is one of the best in the business. Not only is it nice and large (240 pixels by 320 pixels), but it features a screen capable of displaying sixteen million colors - more than many large sized computer monitors.
Pros
- Two models to choose from gives consumers the ability to choose the features they want
- Lots of capabilities on the slider version
- Decent battery life
- Best LCD in the business
- Small form factor
- 3G capability
Cons
- Classic version may be too crippled
- No Wi-Fi
Overall
The Nokia 6500 is a good phone - but not necessarily a great phone. Sure, it has a lot of features and an LCD screen that all of the other phones need to incorporate, but after that there really is not much there. It is almost as though it tries to do too much, but does not do any of it especially well.
