Nokia 6682/6681

Nokia steps up to the plate with the 6682. This stylish and powerful phone comes with a 1.3 mega pixel camera, Bluetooth capabilities and a fabulous music player. Even with the usual Nokia bulkiness and awkward keypads, this phone will tempt you with its awesome feature set and sleek style. Priced at $550 it will empty out your pocket book but it should be a tad cheaper with new service.

While stylish the Nokia 6682's design still shows the typical Nokia flaws of bug and bulky. Measuring in at 4.2 by 2.2 by 0.9 and weighing in at a whopping 4.6 ounces, you are going to fill this sucker in your jeans (if it fits) or in your purse. That aside, the silver and ice-white colors are attractive.

The good thing about the size and bulk of the phone is that it allows a 2 inch, 176x208 pixel display with vibrant colors and movement that supports 262,000 colors. The menus are also fun and easy to navigate.

The silver and grey keypad, the five-way mouse, large soft keys and text-entry key looks great. However, you still have to deal with Nokia's usual design flaw of too small and slippery numeric keys.

Another drawback of the Nokia 6682 is the lack of dedicated controls. There is no volume rocker on the side of the phone, no speaker phone button and no shutter release for the camera. The only thing they offer you is the voice command button on the left and a power control on the right. In an effort to make up for the lack of convenience, Nokia did add a slot for a Multi Media Card (RS-MMC), which is nice.

When you open the cover of the 6682 you will find the lens of the 4.5 mm camera and an LED flash. When the lens cover is opened, it automatically switches into camera mode. That aside, the camera lacks a mirror for self portraits, but all in all, the set up is nice.

The Nokia 6682 comes with a few extra gadgets in the box including an ear bud style headset, data cable and the software for syncing with your PC.

An impressive feature set is packed into the Nokia 6682 including Call log, Voice dialing, voice commands, Voice recorder, an Internal hands free speakerphone for convenient communication, calendar, address book, which share 10MB of RAM, voice memos; photo caller ID, a vibrate mode; wireless web (WAP 2.0) and e-mail (POP and IMAP access), an alarm clock, a to-do list, a calculator; instant messaging and you can share your photos and videos with friends and family using MMS and e-mail.

The Nokia 6682 comes equipped with a 1.3 mega pixel camera (1280 x 960) with flash, 6X digital zoom, night mode, and black & white mode. It has a standard and burst capture mode (up to six images captured at short time intervals), flash mode, brightness, image quality, white balance and color tones. A really cool feature of this camera is the Nokia XpressPrint technology which allows you to direct photo printing from a compatible USB printer (cable included) without using a PC. It has an easy to use slide-open camera mechanism and the displays brightness automatically adjusts.

The connectivity on the Nokia 6682 is stellar. You can send email with attachments, internal modem functionality, GPRS/EGPRS Class 10 up to 236 Kbps, and an XHTML and WML Internet browser. You can connect up to 5 devices simultaneously via Bluetooth wireless technology and you may also synchronize your phone book, calendar and to-do list to your PC via USB 2.0 or Bluetooth technology.

The Video on this phone has a QCIF 174 x 144 pixels or Sub-QCIF 128 x 96 pixels resolution with a time from 30 seconds up to 1 hour per clip. With a smooth 6x digital zoom, video streaming it is fun to use and makes editing of still and video clips for sharing easy.

Yet another cool feature of the Nokia 6682 is that you can take your e-mail and office anywhere: view files created with programs like Adobe Reader (PDF's), Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint (Microsoft Office 97, 98, 2000, XP and 2003).

The Nokia 6682 has hopping music player that supports both MP3 and unlocked AAC files. You can transfer tunes via the USB cable or Bluetooth and the player will sort your music according to album and artist, which makes it really easy for browsing through your downloads. The display shows the artist and track information, a progress bar and time elapsed/time gone by. The ability to create multiple playlists and shuffle/repeat enables you to listen to your favorite tunes all the time.

Personalization is fun on the Nokia 6682 as you can watch or listen to live streaming video and audio, such as movie trailers, news highlights or music videos, the MP3 and AAC stereo music player, stereo headset (included), downloadable polyphonic ringing tones (MIDI, MP3, and AAC) and games, and you can record your AMR audio clip and save it as your ring tone.

The 6682's battery life is an extended NiMH Battery 900 mAh with a Digital Talk Time up to 4 hours and a Digital Standby Time up to 11 days.

The Scoop

The good: The Nokia 6682 is sleek and stylish with a large, vibrant display and a great feature set, including 1.3 mega pixel camera, Bluetooth, photo and video editing options, a snappy music player and more.

The bad: The phone still has the Nokia trait of heaviness and bulkiness, and small, slippery numeric keys. There isn't a dedicated control for the camera or the speakerphone and the camera features are not that great.

The bottom line: It is a great, dependable phone that is stylish and sexy and packed with an awesome feature set.
