Tech-FAQ Tip: Click Here to Check for PC Errors

What is a PopUp?

A popup is a new browser window which unexpectedly opens itself onto your screen.

Popups usually exist to advertise some sort of spammy product or service.

Webmasters are usually paid around $3 for every one thousand popups which they display to their visitors.

Popups usually disable the menu and title bar in their web browser frames.

Some popup advertising firms limit popups to one-per-session or to one every four to twenty-four hours. Other popup advertising vendors send so many popups so quickly that the only way to escape popup hell is to close your web browser.

PopUp's vs. PopUnder's

A variant of the popup is the popunder. A popunder opens a browser window just like a popup does, but the popunder browser window opens itself underneath other windows on your PC. You may not see the popunder for many hours after its creation.

Blocking PopUp's

Most modern web browsers allow users to block popups.

In addition, there are many brower add-ins which also block popups.
