How to Reset a Linksys Router

Internet connection can be disrupted due to some issue with your Linksys router. Resetting the Linksys router may eventually solve your Internet connectivity problem. Given below are few simple-to-follow steps, which will help you reset your Linksys router.

In case you forget your Linksys router’s password, resetting it will be beneficial. Resetting the router will return all original factory settings. Resetting the Linksys router may not resolve every connectivity problems; hence also try modifying your network preferences as well, if resetting the Linksys router doesn’t work.

  1. Turn off your Internet modem. Note that this is different from your router.
  2. Now, locate a small button (that you can only press with a pin or a pen tip) reading Reset at the back of your Linksys router.
  3. With the Linksys router on, press and hold on to the Reset button for at least 30 seconds.
  4. Wait for the Power and WLAN to light up on the router and a sign on your computer showing that a connection has been made to the router.
  5. When the lights are all on, turn your Internet modem back on.
  6. Open your web browser and check to see if you can get on the Internet now.

Some Points to Note

  • The router resets if you hold on to the Reset button for more than 30 seconds.
  • The reset will convert all your configurations back to the factory setting, including your password.
  • If you need to login to your Linksys router, reference the following:
    • Default Usernames Known:
      • Linksys BEFW11S4: admin
      • Linksys WRT54G: admin
      • Linksys Comcast: Comcast
      • Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Ethernet: Administrator
      • The rest of the Linksys routers: not necessary
    • Default Passwords Known:
      • Linksys BEFW11S4: [not required]
      • Linksys Comcast: 1234
      • The rest of the Linksys routers: admin
