Samsung G800
If you consider the ability to capture images to be an important feature on your phone, then the Samsung G800 is definitely worth looking into. One of the standout features is a camera that does just about anything you could want. The unit is equipped with bells and whistles such as a bright Xenon flash and a zoom lens that makes close-ups a breeze. At the same time, the resolution is one of the best in the industry, with a solid 5 megapixel configuration.
One thing to note about the Samsung G800 is that the unit does resemble a pocket camera. In fact, the dimensions are pretty close to what you would expect. Still, the weight is not that bad at just under five ounces. The durability of the construction of the body, when coupled with the weight, gives one the impression of having something of substance, not some cheap knockoff that will fall to pieces after a few uses.
A lot of the usual features are found on the G800. You have a decent size display area, plenty of room in the address book, and good quality sound clarity. However, the G800 does have a few attributes that are not likely to excite the buying public.
One issue with the G800 has to do with the hardware keys. Unlike some models, these are not illuminated. Until the user gets acclimated to the layout of the keys, this may create some tension. Still, there is only so much area to search and it shouldn't take too long for this issue to cease being a problem at all.
Other than the camera, there is really not anything that sets the G800 apart from the competition. While it is a good quality phone, it is not likely to cause any great stir. Still, it is worth a look if you are in the market for a new phone and don't mind the larger size.
Pros
- 5 MP camera is great and has some excellent features, such as optical zoom
- Construction is sturdy, nothing cheap here
- Sound quality is well within industry standards
Cons
- No illumination on hardware keys may cause heartburn for some
- Phone is larger than many models on the market today
- Lack of GPS and Wi-Fi support
- The video recording isn’t as great as might be expected from a 5 megapixel camera
Overall
While the Samsung G800 is a perfectly serviceable phone, there is nothing to help it stand out in the market other than the camera feature. Unless that is very important to you, chances are you can do just as well with something else.
