Samsung Heat

The Samsung Heat has some ingenious features, but overall fails to make the grade for most heavy phone users. The Samsung Heat is a very good looking, small and thin slider phone. The construction of the phone is well made and the sliding mechanism works well. The phone is very small; it weighs about 3.1 ounces and fits in the palm of your hand. The color schemes are great; it comes in two colors: black onyx and gold.

The main feature of the phone is the electrostatic keys. Once the phone has been activated or turned on, electrostatic keys beneath the display screen light up. These keys are not tactile, but work via electrostatic energy, just like some of the iPods, however for most people, that don't necessarily look at the keys while they text or input, it is difficult (to say the least) to know whether or not your touch was received by the phone. Although a great concept in theory, it doesn't work that well in the real world.

The Samsung Heat comes also with several decent features including a 1.3 mega pixel camera that takes quality pictures and an on board music player. While the media plays great on the phone, the Samsung Heat has one large flaw, no memory slot for additional memory cards. The Samsung Heat comes with 136 MB onboard, hardly enough for today's iPod users.

Other features include GPS/Location, Bluetooth and USB support for transferring files or images. If you are a casual media user, the 136 MB on board might be ok, however for those looking for a replacement of their iPod, the Samsung Heat is inadequate. Traditional features on the phone work very well and the interface is extremely easy to use with hardly a learning curve. Reception in my area (NYC) was excellent and the speakerphone worked well even at high volumes.

Pros

Cons

Overall

Overall the Samsung Heat looks great and is an overall high quality slider phone; however for those looking for a phone specifically to play music or touch text you might find using the Samsung Heat limitations a deal breaker.
