Scan Disk has been removed from Windows 2000 and Win XP. The functionality previously found in Scan Disk has been built into Explorer.
- Scan Disk requires exclusive access to a drive when it executes. Hence, if one or more of the files are open on the drive that you want to scan, Scan Disk displays a prompt asking if you want schedule the drive check for the next time that you restart your computer.
- Scan Disk might take a long time to scan, depending on the number of files and folders, the size of the drive, disk performance, and available system resources, such as processor and memory.
- Scan Disk might not correctly report information in read-only mode.

If you get any bad sectors , its best to look into cloning the disk to a new one. It will eventually go tits up just when your in the middle of something import. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED – JUST REMEMBER – TITS UP!!
