What is Ultra DMA?
Ultra DMA is now the most commonly used form of memory transfer between hard drives and the computer system itself.
DMA, or Direct Memory Access, allows memory to be transferred without CPU involvement, therefore decreasing the load on the CPU and freeing iy up for handling other tasks, thus increasing the overall performance of the PC.
In addition to the decreased load on the CPU, Ultra DMA also allows for much higher performance than previous memory transfer technology. Ultra DMA has more than doubled the Maximum Transfer Rates of the most advanced PIO system. In addition, Ultra DMA provides increased reliability and has integrated error checking technology to ensure that memory transfers run smoothly.
