How do I upgrade BIOS under Windows XP?
Most BIOS upgrade programs require you to boot to DOS in order to run them. This is an important safety precaution. If Microsoft Windows XP were to crash during a BIOS upgrade, you might have to send the motherboard back to the manufacturer to have the BIOS reinstalled.
The easiest way to boot DOS is to boot from a DOS Startup Floppy.
Creating an MS-DOS Startup Floppy
- Place a floppy disk in the floppy drive
- Click the <Start> button
- Click the <My Computer> menu item
- Right-click the A: drive and click "Format"
- In the Format window, check "Create an MS-DOS startup disk"
- Click the <Start> button
To boot from this floppy, you may need to change the order of boot devices in your computers BIOS setup.
