The UTStarcom Coupe-8630 is about as bland and boring of a phone as you can get. This device, the cheapest of the cheap, is designed specifically for the person who is looking for a device they can talk to their family and friends with – and not use for anything else. While it is perfect as a backup phone in case of emergencies or as a device for elderly loved ones who struggle with technology, the UTStarcom Coupe-8630 should be avoided if you are looking for a good phone for day to day use.
This device is designed for use on the CDMA network, so don't expect to be able to take it with you during any of your travels. Although there are a few places around the world that will allow a CDMA phone to work, you are basically stuck in America with the UTStarcom Coupe-8630. Furthermore, unlike most CDMA phones, the UTStarcom Coupe-8630 offers no 3G support whatsoever.
One of the only good features about the UTStarcom Coupe-8630 is its size and weight. The phone measures approximately four inches by two inches by one inch and weighs only 94 grams. While this is pretty small, considering that there are virtually no features in this device, it's amazing that the size could not have been cut down even more. Also, despite the small list of features, the UTStarcom Coupe-8630's battery life isn't very good. Expect only three and a half hours of talk time or 229 hours of standby time from this device.
As far as other features on the UTStarcom Coupe-8630 go, don't expect too much of anything. There is a speakerphone, various voice commands, and GPS support – but that's it. No camera, no music or video player. Just the basics. Another rather cool feature is the built in ICE buttons for emergencies. Pressing one of these buttons will automatically call your local emergency service provider. If you don't expect too much from this phone, chances are that you will be pleasantly surprised.
