What does FTP Stand For?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.
The official definition of the term FTP is contained in RFC 959: File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
FTP is sometimes mistakenly expanded to File Transfer Program, but this is incorrect. The FTP protocol defines a standard for communications between an FTP server and an FTP client. Many different implementations of FTP servers and FTP clients are available for almost every operating system in existence.
