Thanks, enjoyed doing this. Only 17 out of 25 though. Not too sure about the first question, software RAID-5 is listed in my study material as a viable option. Once again thanks.

    • WillSpencer

Windows Server 2012 does support RAID-5.

RAID-5 just isn’t one of the Storage Layout options. :)

    • WillSpencer

Windows Server 2012 does support software RAID-5.

RAID-5 just isn’t one of the Storage Layout options. :)

      • Andy

Thanks for clarifying. I’ve probably misunderstood what is meant by the term storage layout. I can see from your screen shot that RAID-5 is not showing for this particular VD which is being created within a storage pool, but in Disk Management RAID-5 is an option that can be applied to dynamic disks within Server 2012. Does that not count as a storage layout or is this term only applied to Virtual Disks?

        • Andy

Ah, don’t worry, my bad. Just created a storage pool and Virtual Disk within. Now I understand the term’ Storage Layout’ and yeah, RAID-5 isn’t one of them. Parity, RAID-5, apples and pears comes to mind :-)
Glad I saw this website, I would have got that wrong in the 410…

  • Manny Mickey

    14 /25 .. thanks need to hone my skilss…

  • Jason

Great stuff! IQuick comment about one of the questions:

    22. What PowerShell command would you use to install a role or feature on a computer running Windows Server 2012?

    Configure-WindowsFeature

    Add-WindowsFeature

    Setup-WindowsFeature

    Install-WindowsFeature

the question comes back with the correct answer as b
Is that not a 2008 command that has been replaced in 2012 with answer d?

    • WillSpencer

      Wow, what a screwup! I mean… um… yes… you are correct! :D

Here’s the official word from Microsoft:

      Install-WindowsFeature

Installs one or more Windows Server roles, role services, or features on either the local or a specified remote server that is running Windows Server 2012. This cmdlet is equivalent to and replaces Add-WindowsFeature, the cmdlet that was used to install roles, role services, and features in Windows Server 2008 R2.

      Aliases

The following abbreviations are aliases for this cmdlet:

      Add-WindowsFeature

  • flyingember

What PowerShell command would you use to restart a computer?
the answer is restart-computer, which is none of the options
shutdown /r is the non-powershell command

    • WillSpencer

      Good catch!

      Fixed. :)

      Thanks flyingember!

  • goliath

great exam, just got 10, but im still new to the server side of things especially win2012.

  • Victor

Very comprehensive – Covers all exam objective. Though the questions are too direct

  • WillSpencer

Now this gets interesting. I put that question in there because I was worried Microsoft would make a point about the 63 number vs the 64 number. But now Microsoft is publishing the 64 number themselves and the only references still listing 63 are TechTarget and a single user comment on a Microsoft page. The 63 number has almost completely disappeared down the memory hole.

So… if this isn’t one of the points where Microsoft could get sneaky on the actual test, I’ll remove the sneakiness from the practice exam. I’ve changed the “most correct” answer to 64 and removed any answers close to 64.

    Thanks for the note!

  • Anthony

Great practice test. I got 9/25. I need to study. Question: how many questions do you have in your question pool?

  • Danny

Good Practice exam for S/2012. I’ve got 12/25 though not even touch S/2012. From the q’s given it seems to me few slight changes in the settings, I think so esp. in Group Policy.Howeve, q’s such as IPIPA i think irrelevant to consider because under IPV6 DHCP fully support such enhancement. Some obvious q’s like IPV6 tunnel protocol: teredo/6to4,isatap are converge protocol so to speak since it allows P4 to P6 communications to happen between P4 and P6 environment and VPN requires a sets of data encapusulation thru unique protocol that is L2TP/IPSEC that both encrypt header and payload end-to-end… Thanks…I recomend this to my group to have a brief idea on S/2012 config.

  • safvan

    Good one.. happy learnings.

  • squeakyzig

1st time through in a rush, 12 / 25. Good questions. Thanks, I will be back!

  • Dan

Awesome, exactly what I need to go along with books/videos. Will be testing regularly.

  • Neeti Jain

    Awesome.. Really helpful

  • gerd

This was helpful. Will be testing regularly, while I am reading :)

  • Sterling Archer

    3. What command-line utility is required to create the domain controller
installation media that includes a copy of the AD DS database so that
you can use the Install From Media (IFM) option in the Active Directory
    Domain Services Configuration Wizard?

The answer is listed as ndtsutil.exe but it should be ntdsutil.exe

    • WillSpencer

Thanks Sterling! I never would have seen that typo by myself.

It reminds me of an old joke: Dyslexics of the World, Untie!

      • John

        Dyxelcsics has more nuf!

  • BM

    15/25. Good questions. Thanks

  • taiwoone

You scored 11 points out of 25 points total…. not bad for someone very new in the world of IT.
    Tks so much !

  • Aaron

Congratulations Will!! Really helpful. I scored 19 points out of 25 points. I failed power shell commands. I hope new practice tests are posted.

    • WillSpencer

      I’m glad you like it!

Each time you take the exam, it pulls 25 random questions from the pool. I’ll be adding new questions to this exam once I finish the creating the ICND1 exam. Then I will start on a practice exam for 70-411: Administering Windows Server 2012.

  • silvio

Great test, thanks, but it showing a msg at submitError Occured:error Forbidden. Note im doing this test from a tablet.

    • WillSpencer

Which tablet? Is JavaScript enabled? Is it a recurring issue, or did it happen just the once?

  • NickiE

I have used this quiet a bit. Are you going to put one out for 411 and 412?

    • WillSpencer

411 is on the schedule right after the Cisco ICND1 exam is complete. :)

  • sam

good one.. hats off for the creator.. but i hav a doubt.. isit these type of questions ask for exam ?

    • WillSpencer

These questions are like the actual test questions, but they are not the actual test questions.

The use of actual test questions, also known as “braindumps” is forbidden by Microsoft.

  • hjs

nice one – keep up the good work.

  • giuliano

Thank you, that was really helpfull, i am taking the certification training now and there is a lot of question here that they dont explain.

  • proftech

Thanks for the info… very nice Practice Test…

  • Andy

21 out of 25, I’m getting better… good job because I’ve got the exam tomorrow!

    • WillSpencer

Best of luck! Don’t stress! :)

      • Andy

Thanks Will. I passed, but only just. Now on to the 411. Looking at various books to get me started but there only appears to be two official Microsoft 411 specific books, one of which cost a fortune and the other with poor reader reviews. Any suggestions?

        • WillSpencer

I am terrible at choosing between two options — I always choose both. :D

I haven’t started on 411 yet. I keep letting myself be distracted by other projects.

  • uday

i Got 11 out of 25 but nxt time when i try same qus i got above 20…thx it helps to give me direction of thinking…i will start my studies now…

would you put more tests? pls do it!!!
    thanks

  • mhl

    21/25 3 week of study.
    Michał.

  • Tim Dippel

How close would you say that these questions are to what is actually on the test? I know Microsoft is against BrainDumps, but, for instance, if you got 20/25 regularly on these, would you consider yourself prepared?

    • WillSpencer

This is definitely not a brain dump — we don’t want to risk Microsoft banning any of our site visitors from their certification programs.

The answer to your question depends upon how much the testing fee means to you. If the testing fee is a lot of money to you, study until you hit 25/25 with boring regularity. If the testing fee is small change to you, taking the exam is the absolute best way to determine if you are prepared.

A few years ago when I was paying for my team members to take exams, I told my team members to take the exams first and then study later — if they didn’t pass the first time. That was the best way to get the most people certified quickly. But… I wouldn’t feel quite so comfortable recommending that strategy to someone who was spending their own money.

  • Ashim Nath

Great test.. Thanks.I spotted a mistake in the answer section on the following question

    Q. What PowerShell cmdlet would you use to enable Remote Desktop connections to the server?

All the available answers are the same :)

    • WillSpencer

They are all very close, but not the same. :)

Set RemoteDesktop -Enable (space after Set; no hyphen after Remote)

Set Remote-Desktop -Enable (space after Set; hyphen after Remote)

Set-Remote-Desktop -Enable (hyphen after Set; hyphen after Remote)

  • hanif

    Thanks mate, perfect!

  • elchino

how effective is the measureup test? has anyone used it as the only preparation and was it effective as they claim?
thanks for the feedback in advance!

  • Dalebert

I think you have an incorrect answer for the question “To which directory must you copy the ADMX files from the %systemroot%PolicyDefinitions in order to create a Central Store for Group Policy management templates?” Shouldn’t it go to (the default location) %systemroot%sysvoldomainpolicies?

    • WillSpencer

We may be agreeing, but using different terminology?

We’re using Universal Naming Convention (UNC) in that Q&A.

Our answer to that question is: \FQDNSYSVOLFQDNpolicies

“By default, tools such as the Group Policy Management console save the ADMX files to the %systemroot%PolicyDefinitions folder, which on most computers is C:Windows PolicyDefinitions. To create a Central Store, you must copy the entire PolicyDefinitions folder to the same location as the Group Policy templates; that is, %systemroot%SYSVOL sysvoldomain namePolicies, or, in universal naming convention (UNC) notation, \domain nameSYSVOLdomain namePolicies.”

  • Vera Conceição

    Hi, Thanks making this available.

In this question: How many logical processors are supported by Microsoft Windows Server 2012?

You have 640 as the right answer, isn’t 320??

    Thank you!

    • WillSpencer

320 is the number Microsoft references as being supported by Hyper-V.

640 is the number Microsoft references as being supported by Windows Server 2012.

      • Vera Conceição

        Oh! Thank you then!

  • Sean

I think this is a great resource for preparing yourself for the test. Thank you for hosting this.

  • MadHatter

    Awesome!

    Thanks so much!

  • ASalem

i found wrong answer for this question “3. What PowerShell command would you use to rename a computer?” >>>The right answer from microsoft site is “Rename-Computer [-NewName] [-ComputerName ] [-DomainCredential ] [-Force] [-LocalCredential ] [-PassThru] [-Restart] [-Confirm] [-WhatIf] [ ]”
…. SO what about the rest of questions ????????

  • Gza

What PowerShell command would you use to install the Active Directory Domains Services role on a computer running Windows Server 2012? You can choose two anwsers with or without “-name” in it. Both are good since -name parameter is optional with Install-WindowsFeature cmdlet.

    • WillSpencer

Erggg… bloody Microsoft… documenting one thing and building another.

      Thanks Gza!

  • ITW

    18. What is not one of the Storage Layout options supported by Windows Server 2012?

    Parity

    Simple

    Mirror

    RAID-5 ?????

The correct answer for this should be Simple!

    • WillSpencer

      ITW:

      Check again. :D

  • Ed

can some one help me with this question pls You have a server named Server1. Server1 runs Windows Server
2012 and is located in a perimeter network.

You need to configure a custom connection security rule on
    Server1. The rule must encrypt

network communications across the Internet to a computer at
    another company.

Which authentication method should you configure in the
    connection security rule?

    A.Advanced

    B.User (Kerberos V5)

    C.Computer (Kerberos V5)

    D.Computer and user (Kerberos V5)

    E.Default

  • Wayne Whittle

Which of the following upgrades are supported by Windows Server 2012? You can upgrade from Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition to Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Edition so long as it has SP2 installed or is that the point (the SP2 is missing) ?

    • BB

Hi, that’s the point. the correct answer is “none of above”

  • BB

Hi, great help, but some questions are worng answered:
What PowerShell syntax would you use to configure Windows Firewall rules?
    Set-NetFirewallRule -enabled True
    Set-NetFirewallRule -enable
    Set-NetFirewallRule -name -enable
    Set-NetFirewallRule -name -enabled True
the last answer is marked as right, but parameter ‘-name’ requires string argument.

If nothing else, gives you and idea on what to study for the test, or what kind of areas it may ask about. Great site

  • John Myers

Wow, I got a 12 out of 25. Go me! Over half of the questions and answers were not covered in my study guide. What a load of bull from the author of my guide.

    • WillSpencer

Which study guide are you using?

I recommend using more than one study guide, to decrease the odds of missing any important information.

      • John Myers

It was an all in one guide by Will Panek that was supposed to be enough for me to pass all three MCSA exams. I just cannot believe how much I didn’t know based off your practice test

  • Joe

    Just a typo-

    18. What feature of Windows Server 2013 prevents users from seeing shared files and folders they do not have permission to access?

    netdom renamecomputer %ComputerName% /NewName:
    renamecomputer %ComputerName%
    netdom rename %ComputerName% /NewName:
    netdom renamecomputer %ComputerName%
Is this correct? I thought it was:
(Watch the dash between rename & computer)

    netdom rename-computer %ComputerName% /NewName:

  • Cyrus Bozorg

Thank you so much for your great effort and good Job, bless!

  • Suzi

Thanks for postings this question… is create… using for my examm

  • failed

The questions on the new exam (new format, 55 questions, not 53) is much harder than this. These questions are not on the exam. There are a LOT of multi-part questions and multi-step problems where you they list 9 steps/commands that you have to perform, of which 5 are pertinent to the question and then you have to order them in sequential order.

Wow.. I really didn’t do well at all. Tried this after an online course with train signal. Spent 3 weeks undertaking the course. I got 10 out of 25 on first go and included all sorts that I have not covered. I thought I would do better than that.. So will try a couple more times.. but definitely feel shaky on the subject now

Too bad it doesn’t show answers at end. I finished whole thing not wanting to see answers but now I can’t at all.

  • Thai

25 out of 25 after a couple of tries

  • dooty22

I think this question is wrong. Technically the directory you must copy the ADMX files into, would be \FQDNSYSVOLFQDNpoliciesPolicyDefinitions, since you need to create the policydefinitions folder. This isnt a possible answer.

To which directory must you copy the ADMX files from %systemroot%PolicyDefinitions in order to create a Central Store for Group Policy management templates?

    • Michi

      true

  • angerguy

  • Jr

    my frist test 8…. bad

  • saumik

fist test 12 out of 25

  • andiv

Thank you very much for this test. I found the question from #13 a little bit confusing: it asks where the FILES from that PolicyDefinitions should be moved (not where all the directory should be moved). If it’s about the directory, it should be \fqdnSYSVOLdfqdnPolicies and if it’s about the files, then it’s correct \fqdnSYSVOLdfqdnPoliciesPolicyDefinitions (or so it seem the manual is saying).
In any case, thank you again (21 out of 25 because I didn’t parsed carefully through the GPOs and it seems to have a lot of questions from the last chapter).

  • Back

My first test … not really good :(

Hard Powershell questions … i’m not really good for now with this language ^^ xD

scored 11 points out of 25 points total.

  • Jerad

netdom is not a powershell command per se (though is usable), add-computer is the domain adding command-let found in powershell. Netdom is an old command from pre-powershell.

  • MCSA Candidate

Congratulations – you have completed Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012.

Congratulations – you have completed Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012.
