What is JavaScript?

JavaScript is a simpler competitor to Java which was designed for the World Wide Web.

JavaScript is an interpreted language which is based on the ECMAScript standard.

JavaScript was developed by Netscape Communications Corporation and is now owned by Sun Microsystems.

Microsoft makes a JavaScript clone known as "JScript" which it includes as part of the Internet Explorer web browser.

Although originally designed as a client-side web language, JavaScript was later extended to include server-side capabilities.
