  • How to Fix the ORA-12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error

Oracle is a free, open business management software available for both personal and commercial use. Oracle allows users to process credit card payments, handle customer support, and manage customer orders from one location and includes many additional features from third party companies, such as Paypal and Amazon, that allow users to sell products in a wide variety of marketplaces.

What is the ORA-12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error?

ORA-12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error is an error that Oracle displays to the user whenever it cannot access a specific server or database. This can happen for a number of reasons, with the most common being that the user did not specify which database or server he/she was trying to access or did not provide the correct password for that database. Instead of telling the user the exact reason it could not connect to the database, Oracle simply gives the ORA-12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error.

How to Fix the ORA-12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error

The user can usually fix the ORA-12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error by ensuring that he/she specifies the database or server he/she is attempting to access. While the user may have entered the database name, he/she may have entered the path wrong, preventing Oracle from locating the database. Additionally, the user must ensure that his/her password is entered correctly. If the user has entered his/her database or server and password correctly and he/she is still unable to connect, Oracle may have been installed improperly. This can be corrected by uninstalling Oracle and reinstalling it.
