    Battery life

    4. Battery life

Alas, battery life is an infamous weak spot of smartphones in general, but it does vary from phone to phone so it’s a good idea to check on what you can expect and try to get a phone that will last you longest per charge.

Most smartphone manufacturers mention their battery life among their specifications or features, but this is something that’s best corroborated by independent reviews. Also note that if a manufacturer advertises its phone’s battery life among its major features, putting it front and center, it likely means that they’ve given it greater attention. Otherwise they wouldn’t be so proud to show it off as a selling point.

Battery life also doesn’t depend just on the capacity and type of the battery used, or the size of the battery. It depends in some part on how the software manages its power usage. Some phones come with power saving features that try to make the most of available capacity. For example it may include a feature that puts applications to sleep when they’re not in use for a while.

Some phones also have their hardware designed for optimal power usage. For example, it may come with two processors one of which is very fast but more power hungry, and one that spends negligible amounts of power, but is significantly slower. Then their software delegates apps and processes on the smartphone according to your use. If something doesn’t need so much processing power it’s relegated to the slower and battery efficient processor to increase battery life.
