    Google Search

    5. People make 45,000 Google searches every second

Google.com receives 45,000 searches every second, on average. This amounts to about 3.5 billion searches per day. As the famous “Did You Know” YouTube video asked some years ago when this number was much lower yet still impressive, “to whom were these questions addressed B.G. (Before Google)”. It’s an interesting question, and you can use Google to answer it.

One thing is clear, as more information became available online and search engines evolved to find and bring it to you within seconds, we’ve started relying on these search engines for information probably more than we rely on anything else. Why check a hefty paper encyclopedia or dictionary if you can just google it. Why walk over to a given location just to find a piece of information when you can just google it. Why try to figure something out if you can just google it. And so on.

We no longer exert as much effort to find information. Going somewhere and doing something is no longer about finding information, but about applying information, or just experiencing the world, so long as we remember that there is still a world to experience outside of the internet and its vast trove of interesting information.
