If you were wondering what all of this data travelling around the internet actually was and guessed “video” you’d be right. It makes perfect sense after all. Of all the common types of data online like text, software code, images, and music, quality video files tend to be the largest.
With YouTube and similar sites being as popular as they are, and services like Netflix growing, it is no wonder that video would take up most of those terabytes flowing around every second. In fact it is precisely Netflix and YouTube that are responsible for eating up over 50% of all internet traffic in the US.
According to Cisco’s report video traffic will continue to grow, reaching 84% of all traffic by 2018.
