6. 23 TB of traffic are transmitted every second
If you thought your 2 TB hard drive was impressive, and you couldn’t fill it up in an entire year, imagine 23 terabytes! And then imagine it being filled up every single second. That’s how much data is travelling around the world through the internet every moment. That would be almost 2000 petabytes per day or nearly 60 exabytes per month.
With more people going online with faster connections and bigger appetites for better quality data this number can only go up. Cisco predits we’ll be entering the “zettabyte age” by the end of 2016 by crossing the 1 ZB per year traffic threshold. That’s a thousand exabytes, a million petabytes, billion terabytes, or a trillion gigabytes.
