    5. Origin of Term

Both origins are quite odd, if I do say so myself. Though the original definitions and usages of each term are not commonly used in today’s society, it is important to know where the two terms come from. The term ‘geek’, for instance, has been around since the early 1900s where it was used to describe a performer in a traveling carnival who performed odd acts such as biting the heads off of live chickens. The term ‘nerd’ was first used in the 1950s in the book “If I ran the Zoo” by Dr. Seuss in the quote “I’ll sail to Ka-Troo And Bring Back an It-Kutch a Preep and a Proo A Nerkle a Nerd and a Seersucker, too!”
