There are a number of other worthy options. CodeAvengers.com reminds a little bit of CodeCademy in that there are no videos, and the UI is conceptually similar, but you only get the first level of the course for free, and need to pay $25 for each new level, which seems a bit on the expensive side.

Then there is Bloc.io, which goes even further than all of the above in terms of getting you some serious training for a serious career. You actually get to choose your own mentor after enrolling. But this comes at a steep price of $4999 up front or in four installments.

Finally there are a few other free options, but they are in one way or another limited compared to the free options mentioned in our list (CodeCademy, and The Code Player), and that’s why they aren’t on the top list. For example, Khan Academy offers only a JavaScript programming course (at the time of this writing).

And then there is w3Schools.com that can help you learn web development oriented languages, but the format is more of a standard tutorial than a full blown course, and without things like progress tracking, points, and badges that make others so much more fun. It is, however, still a great learning resource, and a great reference site as well.
